About Safe Families
Safe Families for Children is committed to serving families in crisis by bringing the church and community together to care for the vulnerable. Safe Families began in Chicago in 2003 and, since then, has grown into a globally-recognized family preservation movement with chapters in 30 U.S. states and 14 other countries. Our Central Indiana Chapter launched in 2008 out of the desire to build and extend community to our neighbors experiencing crisis.
Since 2008, we have increased the footprint of Safe Families across Indiana. Our team currently has professional staff in Indianapolis and Lafayette, allowing us to serve both Central Indiana and Tippecanoe County. Our chapter is dedicated to supporting families, preventing children from unnecessarily entering the foster care system and involving the community and church in our mission.

FAQ’s
Safe Families is a double voluntary model, where both families and volunteers choose to participate. Parents may temporarily place their children with volunteers, who freely offer support without incentive. Parents retain full custody and can request their children’s return at any time.
Safe Families supports families in crisis when parents are temporarily unable to care for their children. Common reasons include stress, mental health struggles, medical emergencies, homelessness, and domestic violence.
Safe Families serves families in Indianapolis and surrounding counties, as well as Tippecanoe County.
